C 17 Crash
A US Air Force C-17 Globemaster has crashed at Elmendorf Air Force base in Anchorage, Alaska, according to CBS affiliate KTVA in Anchorage.Smoke can be seen rising from the base, according to the report.KTUU in Anchorage has confirmed that four people were on board the aircraft, which was on a “training mission.” The aircraft belonged to the USAF 3rd Wing, which is based at Elmendorf.
Unconfirmed reports have emerged that the aircraft was a demonstration plane performing a practice flight for an airshow at Elmendorf this coming weekend.The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large four-engined jet which can be used to transport troops or cargo. Since it entered service with the US Air Force in 1993, the C-17 has had a mostly stellar safety record, with no fatal accidents reported. Five countries and NATO operate the aircraft, of which over 200 have been built.
The C 17 plane was assigned to the 3rd Wing at Elmendorf Air Force Base and was on a local training missing when the plane went down at the end of the runway.
